Sharon Sayegh: The Dinner Party

Inspiration for The Dinner Party came out of the political division between the right and left in this country at the time it was conceived in 2018. The symbolism in this painting consists of two women, one from the city (on the left) and one from the country (right) flying towards one another. Each woman is holding a type of magnifying glass to come together and have a good look at one another.

The medium of painting, as a silent medium, requires the viewer to look and listen in silence. The table is filled with animals as metaphors for folks from all walks of life, each with different requirements to live. They beg the question, “Are they the guests at the table or the meal?”
